Having Problem with the function keys in Lenovo Laptop..?? Here’s a Solution!!

LenovoLenovo is a brand name which speaks for itself. Lenovo laptops are known as the best one all over the world. But the best also have issues sometime. Jut like a colleagu of mine have a problem with his Lenovo laptop with its function keys. I wont eloborate on the problem but let you know what he has to say of this problem in his own words.

Hello everyone, this is Richard. I have a lenovo laptop and it was working good until last week. But From the last week it started to have some function key problem with it. I thought of contacting Lenovo Customer Service UK but decided against it because i am not sure what to say to them. As functions keys on my laptop are not working and also the status of function keys are not showing anywhere on the screen. So can Anyone help me with this problem?

So the solution to this problem is as follow:

To solve issues specifically related to function keys, first you have to download 4 things from Lenovo’s website.

Hotkey Features Integration
(This particular driver is provided for ThinkPad only according to the website, but it works on all Lenovo laptops as long as you choose the correct download for your windows)

This file cannot be found if you look for the drivers for your own laptop’s particular model (E.g.: Ideapad series) – This might be the biggest reason why hotkeys are always dysfunctional

BIOS/UEFI
The next step is to update your BIOS/UEFI

This file can be found by going to your laptop model’s driver page, download and install it.

If you already have the latest BIOS installed, the program will tell you and you can skip it.

Power Management (Download and Install it from your laptop model’s drivers & software page)
Lenovo Utility (Download and Install it from your laptop model’s drivers & software page)
When installing each of the 4 drivers, make sure you restart once every installation. This is just to minimize the potential problems.

I’ve also noticed that sometimes when I double click on the driver installation files and give it permission to install, it doesn’t install for some reason. If you’re facing this issue, simply launch the installer again until you see a message confirming the installation has been successful.

Lastly, if you’ve followed all the above steps, your function keys should work perfectly.

If you still have problems, reinstall all your drivers and keep one thing in mind – always restart between each driver installation even though it doesn’t ask you to do that.

How to solve database update issues with Kaspersky antivirus??

Kaspesky_Antivirus

Installing a security solution is very important, however one cannot assume that if you have done that then its okkk. Keeping your antivirus databases up to date is just as important as during initial install. Also, Kaspersky Lab products update automatically, but sometimes some issues can happen.

Now, If security solution window turns to red and and start showing Database extremely out of date warning, or you have a license issue, then try updating your software manually. in order to do that, click on the program icon in the lower right corner of display and choose ‘Update’.

If that too does not work and the program window does not change its color to secure green, one should do the following:

1. Check the system date: it can happen that your PC might be living in the future. This can confuse your security solution, which in turn downloads new databases.

2. Then, Set up proper proxy server settings. in order To do that, open the product settings window and click on Additional->Network Settings->Proxy Server Settings.

3. Then Set your browser proxy settings to default values.

4. Also, check if there are any Kaspersky Lab update servers available. It may happen that your PC may be infected with a virus.

5. Lastly, Open the Updated Settings and check, which of the access rights are used to run the program. to do that open Settings->Additional->Update setting->User account Settings. While one is here, they should choose the administrator account.

For more detailed solution, one should consult the Kaspersky Support Number.

‘£100m loss to UK print’ warning as rivals scope out Polestar sites

Prinovis UK in Liverpool, the UK’s only other publication gravure printer, is owned by €1.7bn (£1.3bn) turnover German business Bertelsmann Printing Group, which also owns the huge web offset printer Mohn Media in Gutersloh.
Corporate communications spokesman Gernot Wolf told PrintWeek: “Prinovis is always interested in looking into opportunities to grow its UK business, we will therefore express an interest with the administrator so we are able to assess whether any of the Polestar businesses represent a sound investment opportunity.”
Prinovis UK managing director Richard Gray added: “We will definitely take a look at all or parts of it, it all depends on what we find.”
Walstead Group, which earlier this month made a dramatic expansion of its continental print operations with the acquisition of Leykam Let’s Print, has also issued a statement confirming its potential interest.
The group said it was interested in “certain assets” of Polestar UK Print (which includes the Sheffield, Bicester and Chantry sites) and Polestar Stones-Wheatons, both of which were placed into administration earlier this week.
Walstead has registered its interest with the administrators of the businesses at PricewaterhouseCoopers, but emphasised that any deal would need a green light from the Competition & Markets Authority.
The firm said it would also need to ensure that it had backing from key customers, trade suppliers and equipment financiers for any deal to be successful.
Walstead chairman Mark Scanlon warned that if the Polestar print sites could not be saved, as much as £100m worth of print for UK customers would transfer to continental printers, with the likelihood of “significant disruption”.
“We foresee significant disruption to the gravure and web offset printing market if the Polestar assets were to permanently cease operating and this capacity was lost for good from the UK. We believe that in this scenario up to £100 million of print would potentially have to be sourced from the continent, with all the attendant exchange rate risks, higher transport costs, and longer lead times,” Scanlon stated.
“Advertising deadlines and publisher revenues would inevitably be impacted by these increased lead times at a time when print is already losing market share to digital media. In addition there would be a significant negative impact on UK jobs. We are therefore exploring whether there are certain Polestar sites and jobs that can be saved, although in our view it is by no means certain that a viable solution can be achieved.”

UK house price average surges by £4,000 in December

The average UK house price surged by nearly £4,000 in December in the fastest acceleration in values since the Brexit vote, according to Halifax.

Prices rose by 1.7% in December alone, reaching a new all-time high of £222,484 and pushing the ratio of house prices to earnings to 5.81, just shy of its all-time high of 5.83 in July 2007 before the financial crisis struck.

The latest surge in prices follow a slew of end-of-year predictions forecasting a marked slowdown in the market in 2017.

Halifax said prices in the final quarter of the year were 2.5% higher than in the previous quarter, while the annualised rate of increase rose to 6.5% in December from 6% in November.

Luton, a one-hour commute from central London, recorded the biggest percentage rise in house prices among major UK towns and cities over the past year, according to recent separate research by Halifax. Prices in the Bedfordshire town jumped by 19.4% in 2016 from £214,934 to £256,636.

The Guardian view on the housing crisis: right to rent

Editorial: For too long councils have been unable to build for rent. The housing white paper should bring them in from the cold

The eastern outer London borough of Barking and Dagenham experienced the second biggest rise in average house prices with an increase of 18.6%. Dunstable – Luton’s near neighbour – completed the top three with a 17.9% rise.

Martin Ellis, Halifax housing economist, predicts that house price inflation will subside in 2017 despite December’s surge. “House prices finished 2016 strongly. Slower economic growth, pressure on employment and a squeeze on spending power, together with affordability constraints, are expected to reduce housing demand during 2017.

“UK house prices should, however, continue to be supported by an ongoing shortage of property for sale, low levels of housebuilding, and exceptionally low interest rates. Overall, annual house price growth nationally is most likely expected to slow to 1%-4% by the end of 2017. The relatively wide range for the forecast reflects the higher than normal degree of uncertainty regarding the prospects for the UK economy this year.”

While final year-end figures for transactions have yet to be announced, Halifax estimates total UK home sales for 2016 will be broadly unchanged from 2015 and 2014, at about 1.2m.

“Nearly six months on from the Brexit thunderbolt, prices are once again picking up speed slowly and steadily,” said Jonathan Hopper, managing director of Garrington Property Finders. “The chronic imbalance between demand and supply is playing a big part in driving up prices.”

Russell Quirk of online estate agent eMoov said economists are wrong to predict flat or falling prices in 2017.

“It would seem positive news on house prices simply will not go away despite the efforts of some to make us accept that the market will weaken in the wake of EU referendum angst.

“As we have said time and again, the UK housing market is fundamentally robust, bulletproof even, and we do not subscribe to the view of the naysayers that we will see price reductions in 2017. The clever money, given today’s numbers, is yet more positive news which will serve to underpin the overall economy this year.”

Economist Howard Archer of IHS Global Insight raised his forecast for 2017 house prices from zero to 2%. “This is a modest upward revision from our previous forecast of flat house prices in 2017 due to the fact that house prices are carrying more momentum into 2017 than we had expected and also the fact that we have slightly upgraded our UK GDP growth forecast for 2017 to 1.4% (from 1.3%).

“We believe the fundamentals for house buyers will progressively deteriorate during 2017 with consumers’ purchasing power weakening markedly and the labour market likely softening. Increasing economic uncertainty is also likely to weigh down on consumer confidence and willingness to engage in major transactions such as buying a house. Housing market activity and prices are also likely to be pressurised by stretched house prices to earnings ratios and tight checking of prospective mortgage borrowers by lenders.”

Higgs expands with Jaggerprint assets buy

Commercial printer and publisher Higgs Group has taken on some of the assets and premises of the recently liquidated Victoria Printing Works (Kingston).

Surrey-based Victoria Printing Works, which traded as Jaggerprint, appointed Gareth Roberts and Rob Keyes of Reading-based KRE Corporate Recovery as liquidators on 27 September 2016. Soon afterwards KRE appointed Richard Birch & Co to help sell the assets. Following a protracted sale process, Higgs Group bought some of the assets and one of the Victoria Printing Works premises on Richmond Road, Kingston upon Thames.

Victoria Printing Works traded from three addresses on Richmond Road, two were leased and one, home to Jaggerprint Digital, was owned by the business. It is this property that Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire-based Higgs has acquired as part of the deal.

The two remaining buildings were returned to the leaseholder and the remaining Victoria Printing Works assets will now be auctioned or scrapped.

All of Jaggerprint’s circa-six staff were made redundant last year, following the appointment of KRE. However, Higgs managing director Nigel White said there was a possibility some could be offered roles when the new business opens.

White said: “We’re excited because this is extending our footprint from where we are in Henley. The business [Jaggerprint] was in operation for around 60 years or more so it’s obviously had a good following in Kingston upon Thames over the years and we would like to be able to pick up some of that business.”

Higgs purchased a five-colour Speedmaster PM 52, along with a further two-colour Heidelberg press, a Polar guillotine and various other items of finishing equipment. Some of the kit will remain in the Jaggeprint premises and some will be moved over to Higgs’ main site in Henley.

Higgs is yet to determine whether it will change the branding of the newly acquired premises or if it will remain as Jaggerprint.

Keyes said Jaggerprint had been going “for a long, long time” but a reduction in turnover combined with a high level of fixed overheads, mainly staff, put a squeeze on cashflow.

“They came to the inevitable conclusion that when there’s more money going out than coming in, it’s inevitable that there’s a time to take some sort of action,” he added.

Jaggerprint also ran two other Heidelberg litho presses, a Canon imagePress C7000VP, a Heidelberg Platen and a range of finishing kit.

According to its statement of affairs dated 27 September, Victoria Printing Works listed a surplus/deficit to preferential creditors of £159,986 and £274,684 to non-preferential creditors, with book debts of £52,000. Total deficiency/surplus as regards members was £202,698. By far its highest-owed creditor was HMRC, at just shy of £50,000.

Founded in 1877, 49-staff Higgs publishes and prints the Henley Standard newspaper and Henley Life magazine, along with offering a range of commercial print services and selling stationery. It runs Speedmasters and various other items of finishing equipment.

Install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1)

The recommended (and easiest) way to get SP1 is to turn on automatic updating in Windows Update in Control Panel and wait for Windows 7 to notify you that SP1 is ready to install. It takes about 30 minutes to install, and you’ll need to restart your computer about halfway through the installation.

To check if Windows 7 SP1 is already installed on your PC, select the Start button, right-click Computer, and then select Properties.

If Service Pack 1 is listed under Windows edition, SP1 is already installed on your PC.

Before you begin

Check if your PC is 32-bit or 64-bit

You’ll need to know if your PC is running a 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) version of Windows 7. Select the Start button, right-click Computer, and then select Properties. The version of Windows 7 is displayed next to System type.

Disk space requirements

Check to make sure your PC has enough free disk space to install SP1.

Installation method Estimated amount of free disk space needed
Windows update
x86-based (32-bit): 750 MB
x64-based (64-bit): 1050 MB
Downloading SP1 from the Microsoft website
x86-based (32-bit): 4100 MB
x64-based (64-bit): 7400 MB

Back up important files

It’s a good idea to back up your important files, photos, and videos to an external hard disk, USB flash drive, or the cloud before installing the update.

Plug in and connect to the Internet

Make sure your PC is plugged in to power and you’re connected to the Internet.

Disable antivirus software

Some antivirus software might prevent SP1 from installing or slow down the installation. You can temporarily disable your antivirus software before the installation. If you do so, make sure you’re aware of the risks that might be involved and re-enable the antivirus software as soon as SP1 is done installing.

Installing Windows 7 SP1 using Windows Update (recommended)

If your PC is set to automatically install updates, you’ll be prompted by Windows Update to install SP1. Follow the instructions to install the update.
To manually install SP1 from Windows Update:
  1. Select the Start button > All programs > Windows Update.
  2. In the left pane, select Check for updates.
  3. If any important updates are found, select the link to view available updates. In the list of updates, select Service Pack for Microsoft Windows (KB976932) and then select OK.
  4. Select Install updates.
    Picture of security shield icon

You might be asked for an admin password or to confirm your choice.

  5. Follow the instructions to install SP1.
  6. After SP1 is installed, sign in to your PC. You might see a notification indicating whether the update was successful. If you disabled your antivirus software before the installation, make sure you turn it back on.

Downloading and installing Windows SP1 from the Microsoft Download Center

If you’re unable to install SP1 from Windows Update, you can download the installation package from the Microsoft Download Center and then install SP1 manually.
  1. Go to the Windows 7 Service Pack 1 download page on the Microsoft website.
  2. Select Install Instructions to see which packages are available for download, and make note of the one that you need.
  3. Select the appropriate language from the drop-down list, and then select Download.
  4. Select the packages you need to install, select Next, and then follow the instructions to install SP1. Your PC might restart a few times during the installation.
  5. After SP1 is installed, sign in to your PC. You might see a notification indicating whether the update was successful. If you disabled your antivirus software before the installation, make sure you turn it back on.

Troubleshoot problems installing Windows SP1

If you try to install SP1 and see an error message that the installation wasn’t successful, this might be because there’s a problem with the Windows Servicing Store that is used to install updates or because your antivirus software is preventing the update from being installed.
To try and fix the problem, follow these steps and then try to install SP1 again.

Download and run the System Update Readiness Tool

  1. Select the link in the table that corresponds with the version of Windows running on your PC.
Windows version Link to Microsoft Download Center
    Windows 7 32-bit (x86) Download
    Windows 7 64-bit (x64) Download

On the Microsoft Download Center page, select your language and then select Download. It might take a few minutes for the tool to download and install.

  2. To install the tool immediately, select Open or Run and then follow the instructions. To use the tool later, select Save and download the installation files to your PC.
  3. On the Windows Update Standalone Installer screen, select Yes or OK.
  4. On the Installation complete screen, select Close.
  5. Try installing the service pack again.

Run the Windows Update troubleshooter

If your PC isn’t able to find or install updates, the Windows Update troubleshooter might be able to fix the problem.
  1. Select the Start button, and then select Control Panel.
  2. In the search box, enter troubleshooter and then select Troubleshooting from the list of results.
  3. Under System and Security, select Fix problems with Windows Update and then follow the instructions.

After the troubleshooter is done, try installing the service pack again.

Bobst introduces web-fed services to the UK

Bobst has strengthened its service offering by delivering web-fed services in the UK for the first time.

The manufacturer’s UK customers will now be supported by a dedicated web-fed team, based at its UK & Ireland headquarters in Redditch, that can offer a high level of technical support and supervise and support project teams from beginning to end.

Graham Dolan, who joined the company in 2001 as a senior technician, has played an instrumental role in the development of the technical services support team over the past year or so and now heads up web-fed technical sales for Bobst UK & Ireland.

Bobst web-fed products and service cover in-line narrow and mid-web flexo, CL flexo, gravure, coating, laminating, vacuum coaters and metallisers and carton web-fed converting.

“The web-fed product range from Bobst is extensive and encompasses solutions from standalone machines to fully integrated tailor-made lines, each offering the exacting quality and high performance that the packaging and label manufacturers need,” said Dolan.

“Our brand is synonymous with quality and productivity and our focus is to develop the web-fed business here in the UK so that it emulates the success and achievements in the sheetfed side of the business.”

Peter Redmond, who joined as zone business director for Bobst UK & Ireland in April and is based at Bobst Manchester, is responsible for sales of the web-fed product range.

An electronics engineer with more than 14 years’ experience working with Bobst machinery will also join the web-fed team next month and in 2018 more web-fed service technicians will be recruited to meet expected customer demand.

Bobst UK & Ireland is also now overseeing web-fed spare parts. Previously, web-fed services, spare parts and technical support had only been available from Bobst sites in Germany and Italy.

“The reason for delivering the web-fed service here in the UK was not chiefly about the length of time waiting for support and spare parts – support could always be provided over the telephone and spare parts could be delivered within days. It is more about going the extra mile to ensure customers are not simply receiving a good service but an outstanding one which they notice and recognise as above and beyond the rest,” said Dolan.

“We can work more closely with customers to identify needs and requirements in terms of service and training, ensuring they are quickly provided for. Our technicians will be based in central England, enabling them to visit customers easily wherever they are located and delivering face-to-face support when it is most needed.

“Additionally, communication is enhanced as the language barrier is no longer an issue. And we can also offer remote diagnostics which minimises machine downtime and ensures customer issues are resolved efficiently.”

Common printer problems and how to solve them

Printers, like most machines, require proper care and maintenance for optimal performance. Sometimes, though, a tricky problem may pop up. Some issues will be specific to either inkjet or laser, but others will be common to all types of printers. It’s also important to realize that more complex problems may need the expertise of professionals, so make sure you’re confident before opening up your printer. Most of these tips will work for PC systems, but diagnosing issues on Apple machines can be done via the HP Support Center.

First, check the basics
If your printer isn’t printing, check the two-Ps and a C: paper, power and connection. Make sure the printer has paper, that it’s plugged in and that it’s connected, either by cable or wirelessly to your computer.

If the printer is out of ink or toner, follow the specific model’s instructions on how to replace it.

  1. Turn the printer off and on again.
  2. Make sure that the printer rests on a flat surface.
  3. Clear the jam from the printer.
  4. Clean the paper rollers.
  5. Reset the printer.
  6. Service the printer.
